What Is Stress?

What is Stress?

Stress is when you feel under pressure with too many things to complete or too much responsibility. We all feel stressed about different things & we all have different stressors, one person may find something stressful that another person does not.

What is the difference between Stress & Anxiety?

Stress is a reaction to a problem but anxiety is the effects from long term stress. When the problem has gone but you are left with an impending doom feeling, well that is anxiety.

Symptoms of Stress & Anxiety

Stress & anxiety symptoms are similar we all experience our own version of symptoms because it is personal how we deal with life’s problems. The body’s physical symptoms are triggered by a chemical change & adrenaline is released, blood pressure goes up, pupils dilate, airways open up & it’s that ‘fight or flight’ response when the chemical change in our body has prepared us to be able to leap into action at any moment. It is important to note that the human body is extremely clever & when in stress mode things like digesting food, ovulating & metabolic rate all are pushed aside to prioritise this getting ready for ‘surviving a tricky situation’ a protective mechanism.

Signs of Stress & Anxiety

The emotional & mental signs of stress
These are similar & interlinked being on edge, grumpy, moody, tearful, overwhelmed & depressed.
Stress & Anxiety can manifest into these physical symptoms like nausea, tummy aches, headaches, feelings of numbness, insomnia, tension, shortness of breath (panic attack) palpitations & many more this is just a few to give you an idea.

The Purpose of Stress

A small amount of stress in bursts can be good to stretch us mentally & it is a known fact that performance is improved with a small amount of stress & the physical chemical response can be helpful. We can operate more mentally & physically with (I stress – no pun included) a little bit of pressure though not if there are other stressful things going on in our lives. Long term stress can have a negative impact & it is how we deal with it that can cause issues. We are all different & we all have different ways of coping during stressful times.

How To Manage Stress & Anxiety

Relaxation, relaxation, relaxation to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which will switch back on the digestion, ovulation & libido all functions in general & relaxation allows the body to carry on as before.
BUT being totally honest if something in your life is making you stressed then stop it & avoid stressful situations that make you cross or upset because nothing is worth it. Don’t let something manifest into a bigger anxiety problem. I know this is easier said than done we all have additional complications causing stressors like money or complicated relationships but try & work out your stressors & manage a plan to manoeuvre a way away from them to help yourself for a clear light at the end of the tunnel because the hope & working away from a negative will help mentally manage any stress or anxiety.
